12 YEARS OF MUSIC BEYOND
What Opportunity Makes Possible
“Ebola outbreak in Democratic Republic of Congo becomes deadliest in country’s history.”
— CNN, August 2026
You’ve probably seen a version of that headline in recent weeks.
Thousands dead. A nearly 50% case fatality rate. And the fastest-spreading Ebola outbreak ever recorded.
And here’s what the headline doesn’t say.
“Stay home” is easy advice if you have a paycheck waiting for you when this is over.
In Congo, nearly 90% of workers have informal jobs. For millions, staying home simply isn’t an option. No paid sick leave. No safety net. No “wait it out.”
You go out because you have to.
Because the alternative isn’t getting sick.
It’s not eating.
And Ebola is only the latest.
Eastern Congo has been at war for decades. Nearly 7 million people are displaced across the DRC. Thousands have been killed. Sexual violence remains a devastating reality.
Yet the world keeps buying the minerals beneath it — the device in your hand included.
Isn’t eastern DRC too far gone?
Fair question.
But here’s a better question: why should where you’re born decide how far you can go?
For millions, eastern Congo isn’t a crisis on a map. It’s home.
That’s where we come in.
For 12 years, Music Beyond has worked alongside the people living through it — teaching, training, developing artists, creating opportunities, and showing up when our own community needs us.
We also run an ongoing Emergency Fund for our artists, teachers, and community members. It’s not flashy. It’s not a headline program.
It’s just what you do when people you’ve built something with need you most.
And yet..
“Through Music Beyond’s Leadership Workshops, we learned that art can be a valuable tool for unity and positive change in our communities.”
For 12 years, we’ve seen what happens when opportunity reaches people who have too little of it.
Talent is universal. Opportunity is not.
“Our school has never had music classes before. Now my students ask for it every day.”
This is what we celebrate after 12 years: not that everything is fixed, but that people keep building anyway.
This isn’t a rescue. It’s an investment.
Our September goal: $20,000
The goal is modest. The work is not.
$20,000 — to keep twelve years of proof from going dark, and build what comes next.
Music is our vehicle. Opportunity is the catalyst. People are the heart. Stronger communities are the outcome. Peace is the destination.
What your gift can make possible
These are just examples of what different levels of support can make possible.
$35 — One hour of group teacher training, reaching 25–30 teachers at once.
$75 — Support for one artist through our three-month Leadership Program.
$150 — One day of music programming in a refugee camp, reaching up to 100 children.
$300 — One month of music education at an orphanage.
$500 — Durable instruments shared across schools and programs for years.
$750 — A full cohort of emerging artists through the Leadership Program.
$1,200 — A professional artist development activity, such as recording or performance.
$3,000 — A two-week teacher training program for up to 50 teachers, with the potential to reach approximately 2,500 children each year.
* These are just examples — every gift is combined to support the full range of our work, including our ongoing Emergency Fund, and directed where it’s needed most.
“You have to go through the hands of Music Beyond to know the true role of an artist.”
12 years in. Still here. Still building.
Help us build what comes next.
Because 12 years in, we’re not done. And neither are they.
